The situation in health care is precarious because of the second Covid-19 wave. In order to meet the call for help from the various care institutions, Red Cross Flanders has restarted the crisis volunteers project. Through this platform, crisis volunteers can choose in which care institution they help and pick a suitable time slot. A matching software developed by the Belgian company, Beeple.

The Red Cross volunteer platform gathers all calls from healthcare institutions that are looking for additional reinforcements. Since its reopening in October, 9,119 volunteers have registered and 254 care institutions have indicated that they are looking for additional volunteers. The registered volunteers are shown all calls for help within a radius of 30 km around their hometown. They then sign up for one or more time slots, depending on their own availability.

In the nursing homes and other care institutions, the crisis volunteers mainly carry out logistical tasks, such as handing out meals, changing beds, cleaning contact points and helping residents with Skype and Facetime calls.

Belgian company developed intelligent matching system

In order to match supply and demand, Red Cross Flanders uses Beeple’s digital personnel planning platform. Via the platform, volunteers can register and report how many hours and/or days they are available to assist care institutions that need help.

The Belgian company, Beeple, is market leader in online personnel planning and already assisted care institutions in the planning of hospitals, ambulance services and first aid organizations during the first corona-wave. The advantages of the software? Volunteers can register themselves online and pass on availability. This allows healthcare personnel to focus on the essentials, not the administration.

CEO, Karel Rabaut: "We want to make our contribution to society in a field in which we are specialists and that is planning. Our goal is mainly to help organizations in need to register all helping hands, draw up the schedules and communicate with the volunteers."

The online platform is not limited to the healthcare sector. Other sectors with personnel concerns and complex planning can also use the tool to ease administrative work. For example, Beeple can be used in the education sector to replace absent teachers with available teachers from the same educational umbrella organization. Food retailers can also efficiently plan their teams based on peak moments.
